| January 11, 2008 | | Size Matters! | Montezuma Bowl at Arapahoe Basin opened on January 11, expanding the Basin's lift-served terrain by a whopping 80 percent. Accessible via the Lenawee Lift, skiers and riders make a short (50-yard) traverse to the gate at the top of the ridge. But it's well worth the small effort, for awaiting your downhill pleasure is 410 acres of ungroomed deliciousness. Opening day for Zuma Bowl was chilly and windy, but the hundreds of people queuing for the quad at the bottom didn't seem to mind. And why would they? Summit County's least-crowded ski area was even more wide open, with Zuma Bowl's mostly above-treeline terrain offering bottomless powder and (on a clear day) spectacular vistas. No visit to Summit County should be considered complete without at least a day at the Basin, the locals' favorite ski hill. Montezuma Bowl includes blue, black, and double black slopes for a total of 36 additional runs. Your Breckenridge and Keystone lift ticket is good at A-Basin, and the Summit Stage's free Swan Mountain Flyer will bring you from Keystone or Breckenridge to the base of the mountain.
