| January 14, 2008 | | Watch artists carve for 65 hours in Breckenridge, CO | The Budweiser Select International Snow Sculpture Championships will be in Breckenridge on January 22-27, 2008. Sculptors will use blank canvases of snow and form them into amazing snow sculpture masterpieces. Artists will carve a total of 65 hours in front of an audience over the course of five days. Each four-person team will carve a twenty-ton, 12-foot-tall block of snow into attractive pieces of art using their creativity. Contestants can only use their own two hands and will be permitted hand tools. These include carrot scrapers, chicken wire, saws, and more. The Snow Sculpture Organizing Committee selects teams each year for this competition.
On January 26th, a panel of artists will make awards for the top three teams on the basis of theme, style, and technique. The event is free to watch and will be held at the venue next to the Riverwalk Center, in the center of town. The sculptures plan to remain on display until February 4th.
