Vail’s Skatepark Summer Kick-off Celebration will be Friday, June 20

Vail celebrate’s the return of its skatepark and usher in the summer atop the LionsHead parking structure with a summer kick-off celebration from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 20.
The skatepark summer kick-off will include a barbecue, live DJ and giveaways from Billabong, The Project, The Den, The Board Room, Spade Gnarly Goods and Arriesgado Clothing. Photos of the summer kick-off event will be available on Vail PM's Web site at www.vailpm.com following the event.

The skatepark returned last summer to the LionsHead structure following a three-year absence. It will be reinstalled annually until a permanent location within Vail is found. The park's elements were constructed by Hazard County Construction of Georgia and include a half-pipe, pyramid, multiple ramps, transitions, rails and banks, plus a street course for younger or less experienced riders to hone their skills. Improvements have been made to the park including an expanded mini-ramp.

The skatepark is managed by the VRD and will be open from dawn to dusk each day through mid-October. Helmets are required for all park users; bikes and scooters are not permitted. VRD Youth Services offers clinics for participants ages seven to 14 that teach basic skills, etiquette and tips to perfect tricks. Clinics take place Tuesdays throughout the summer. For details go to http://www.vailrec.com or call 479-2292.

Hosted by the Town of Vail and the VRD.
