Trail Conditions in Aspen -Sopris

As of 6/15/2009

Know before you go, and be prepared.

TRAILS/CONDITIONS:

American Lake – 2 miles are clear to around 10,500+ft.
Arbany-Kittie – Clear of snow.
Avalanche Lake – Clear of snow for the first 4 miles to Duley Parkand beyond.
Buckskin Pass – Snow.
Captiol Creek – Clear 1 mile past junction of Ditch Trail; Snow on switchbacks. Capital Creek Bridge is washed out; Take the Capitol Creek Ditch Trail as a detour.
Capital Creek Ditch Tr. – Recommend taking this detour to Capital Creek Trail. Be prepared for stream crossing.
Carbonate Creek – Snowline is above 10,000+ in trees; stream crossing is very high and not recommended.
Cathedral Lake – Snow at the switchbacks before the lake; We do not recommend hiking beyond the switchbacks until they melt out. The lake is still frozen over.
Conundrum Creek – Melting snow the last 2 miles in the trees; Trail can be hard to discern. The second bridge is out and will not be replaced until fall; stream crossings are high. No dogs allowed at the hot springs.
Crater Lake – Open to the lake.
Difficult Creek – No snow for the first 2 miles, with patches of snow in the trees beyond.
Discovery/Braille - Open, with patches of melting snow in the trees.
East Maroon Creek - Clear to the stream crossing; Be prepared for stream crossings.
East Snowmass Creek - Seasonal conditions; Be prepared for stream crossing.
Four Pass Loop - Snow on each pass.
Fravert Basin – Snow.
Frying Pan Lakes - Seasonal conditions.
Geneva Lake - Seasonal conditions.
Government Trail - Closed for elk calving May 15 – June 20.
Granite - Seasonal conditions.
Grizzly Lake - Lots of snow to the lake.
Hanging Lake - Open.
Hannon Creek - Seasonal conditions.
Hay Park - Seasonal conditions.
Hell Roaring - Seasonal conditions.
Hunter Creek – Clear.
Hunter Valley – Clear.
Linkins Lake - Melting Snow.
Lostman Loop - Lower Entrance: Clear, with snow in the trees.
Upper Entrance: Snow.
Lyle/Mormon Lakes - Seasonal conditions.
Maroon Creek Trail - Clear.
Midway Pass - Seasonal conditions.
New York Creek - Very snowy; Be prepared for stream crossing.
Perham Creek – Clear.
Petroleum/Anderson – Snow.
Rio Grande - Open from Aspen to Glenwood Springs!
Savage Lakes - Seasonal conditions.
Snowmass Lake - Snow; Be prepared for high stream crossing.
Sunnyside/Shadyside – Hunter Valley Entrance: Clear
Cemetery Lane Entrance: Clear.
Tabor Creek – Very snowy; Be prepared for stream crossing.
Thomas Lakes – Clear.
Weller Lake – Clear.
West Maroon – Snow to West Maroon Pass; Be prepared for stream crossing.
West Snowmass – Seasonal conditions.
Willow Lake – Snow
Woody Creek – Seasonal Conditions.

Conditions are not available for all trails. Expect seasonal conditions - snow at treeline (~11,200 ft.) and above. The snowline is around ~10,800 feet in the trees on Northern aspects. Streams are high.
