| July 22, 2008 | | On Wednesday, July 23 come out and support your local bikers attack a New Start, Finish Area and Modified Route on Vail Mountain. | The 2008 Vail & Beaver Creek Mountain Bike Series continues this week with the fifth race of the series taking place Wednesday (July 23rd) evening on Vail Mountain. The Vail Grind race is a classic single and double-track loop format that will include grinding climbs gaining from 1,763 feet to 3,873 feet followed by a fast downhill. Distances will range from two miles for younger riders, seven miles for juniors or up to 16 miles for more experienced riders. Work on Vail Mountain's snow making water lines is underway causing the route to be modified, including the start and finish area. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. at the start area, which has been changed to the Vista Bahn in Vail Village. The course will be monitored by Vail Mountain Ski Patrol and Steadman Hawkins representatives who will be on site to insure the safety of the racers. Racers should park in the Vail Village parking structure. Youth racers will begin at 5 p.m. followed by adult racers at 5:45 p.m. The Vail Grind post-party will be held at the Tap Room in Vail Village. The race series concludes Aug. 6 with the Beaver Creek Blast on Beaver Creek Mountain. Those who attend the after parties at each race will be entered into an end-of-season grand prize drawing for a Rocky Mountain Bicycles frame. Three bicycle frames will be given away including one youth, one male and one female frame. The race series is a Vail Recreation District (VRD) program. The VRD is an equal service provider and operates under special permission from the White River National Forest. Registration, course information and start times are available at www.vailrec.com.
